As parents, it’s natural to want to understand what’s happening when your child is out there moving, smiling, and having fun in their cheer, gymnastics or ninja class. You may be thinking, What exactly is my child learning? How do they progress to the next level? At Spirit Technique, we believe in clear communication and helping you feel confident about your child's journey in cheer, gymnastics, tumbling, or ninja classes. Let’s dive into how our promotion process works.

Skills Taught at Every Level

At Spirit Technique, each class within every program has a clear set of required skills that coaches teach. These skills are carefully chosen based on the skills that your child will need in future levels. You can see a full list of the skills your child's class requires for promotion by logging into the parent portal.

Our coaches use structured lesson plans to make sure that your child is learning the right skills at the right time. Each skill builds upon the last, and the progression is designed to help your child grow in both ability and confidence.

How Testing Works

When your child is ready, they’ll be invited to participate in a skills evaluation. This testing is based on how well they perform during their regular classes, including drills, exercises, and stretches. The evaluation session takes about 15 minutes, and during this time, your child will be tested on 15-20 core skills.

Core skills are a combination of multiple movements. For example, a roll isn’t just rolling from point A to point B. It includes the entry into the roll, the shape of the roll itself, and how your child stands up afterward. When your child is tested, we look at how they execute the entire movement, which includes all the smaller skills that make up the whole.

Promotion Process

Once your child completes their test, we try our best not to keep you waiting. If there are no other families in the building you will be told right away whether their child has been promoted or if they’ll need a bit more practice before moving up. If your child passes, you’ll get an email with details about their new class, which will start at the beginning of the next month.

If they need more time, that’s perfectly fine! Based on the number of skills that you a child may have done incorrectly we will share the earliest that they child may re-test.

How You Can Help Your Child

If you’re wondering how to support your child during their class journey, we recommend staying involved and encouraging them as they practice their skills. Watching class from the sidelines and giving them a little cheer goes a long way in boosting their confidence. And if you ever have questions about how they’re progressing, don’t hesitate to reach out.

At Spirit Technique, our goal is to see your child succeed and grow, one skill at a time. We’re here to support them, and you, every step of the way! Feel free to reach out by email with any questions that you may have. Email us at support@spirittechnique.net.
